Second Grade Poetry
Posted on 05/16/2016

Greetings from Second Grade! Ms. Casassa and Ms Sousa’s second grade classes have been working hard. Following our non-fiction unit we began our poetry unit. We read many poetry books and truly enjoyed them. The students practiced writing a variety of poems. We wrote acrostic, haiku, cinquain, friendship poems, free verse; I am poems, diamante, and many others. Here are some samples of our work. Enjoy!

Haiku
By: Ermias Mengiste
Mountains stand and see
They reach up into the sky
Go ahead and climb

Free Verse

By: Penelope Kibbe
in the wide open sea
free from the heart of the storm
hopes wander silently
and wash into a dream

Free Verse

By: Lila Berinsky
laughter waits to sleep
until someone cracks
a joke

I Am Poem

By: Marcus Dascelin
I am a lover of the Patriots
I am a Magic Tree lover
I am good at playing video games
I am good at playing spies
I am going to take swimming lessons
in summer
I am speechless I am a tooth wiggler
I am a good helper for my mom
I am very responsible
I am not good at being brave
I am good at multiplication

Haiku

By: Mabel Lewis
The Stray Dog
He sits by the door
Just hoping for food to eat
And a sleeping place

Haiku

By: Kalle Nikula-Gill
Leaves are on the road
The chilly air hits your face Leaves
are everywhere
