The Peabody School Council

A school council is a representative, school specific committee including the principal, elected parents, teachers, staff members, and community members. The school council is required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

Through the school council, teachers, parents, and community members can become more involved and committed to improving the school when they have the opportunity to serve or be represented on a school council that has a role in shaping the policies and programs of the school.
Councils assist principals in preparing the School Improvement Plan and have a role in shaping the school's achievement of the professional development and parent involvement goals of Education Reform.

For the School year 2016-2017, the school council will focus on Fundamental 3 of The Massachusetts Family, School, and Community Partnership Fundamentals: Supporting the Success of Each Child and Youth.

Fundamental Three Indicators:

  1. Linking student work to learning standards, which lead to college and career readiness for all students
  2. Using standardized test results and other data to inform decision-making about increasing student achievement
  3. Helping families support learning at home and at school
  4. Promoting out-of-school-time learning
