Dear Peabody Community,

It is my distinct privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the Andrew Peabody School for the 2014-2015 school year.

As each year of my career in education passes, I continue to be struck by the seasons of change that coincide with the comforting constants of our school year cycle. Undoubtedly, parents, teachers, and administration, always want what is best for ALL our children. That never changes. Also, the love, adoration and pride for our students and our community never wane. Changes, of course, are ever present, permeating our well-traveled routines and procedures. Change happens with staff, our curriculum, and our instruction to name a few. At the Peabody, we embrace change and welcome the challenges it presents.

I am pleased to share that the Peabody has made great strides. Last year’s changes, grounded by the wisdom and experience of the teaching staff at the Peabody, have affected this exciting accomplishment. This means that all of our united hard work has made a measurable difference for our children.

While there are very few changes to our staff this year, I encourage you to welcome our new teachers and educators. We also welcome, with open arms, our new families. Being part of the Peabody family is something special; something that cannot be replicated.

Please know that as a member of the Peabody Community, you are most importantly a member of your child’s educational team. This journey is only successful when we all work together. While we enjoy our relationship with your children during the day, what happens at home is equally as important to their success in school. We want to be a true partner with you. Please, keep us apprised of what is happening at home. If you’re not comfortable with a situation, neither are we. You should ALWAYS feel secure in sharing whatever we need to know to support and educate your child as best we can.

To expand further on this point, you are invited to contact our family liaison, your child’s teacher(s) or me, at any time. Please, do not ever feel as if you do not have direct access to anyone here at Peabody.

I am looking forward to one of our best years ever at Peabody. If you have any ideas, thoughts, or concerns about the best way to make this happen, please, let’s keep the lines of communication open. We all know that any good relationship is only that way because everyone is invested and feels heard.

Enjoy these elementary years. They pass by too quickly. Ask anyone on our staff. At every 8th grade graduation, we are all there, crying tears of joy for our former Kindergarten through 5th grade students, for the students that are passing to that next milestone. We remember them the way you do. Pigtails and tutus. Superhero shirts and legos. We never forget them. They stay in our hearts forever. This is why we take what we do so seriously.

Have a wonderful year.

Best,

Jennifer Ford
