Welcome Back from the Principal: August 31, 2017

Dear Peabody Families:

Welcome to another year of learning and growing at the Peabody! I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with opportunities to create many lasting memories. As we begin the school year, I am thrilled by the individual and collective learning I know lies in the days ahead for the Peabody community. Your commitment to your child’s education and growth, past and present, serves as a great example for all of the hard work and dedication needed to achieve success in its many forms.

This year, we will continue the CPS’s initiatives for Family Engagement and Cultural Competency. While these are ongoing goals for the district and our school, we are forever proud of the depths and strength our community has already embraced these ideals, understanding that they are an integral part of what drives our work and what makes Peabody so special.

As Principal, I am thrilled to be a part of a school community where family members are visible and actively engaged. Our staff exemplarily demonstrates rigor, care, and resiliency. They are truly the foundation of our success as a school. I am honored and privileged to lead in a dynamic community where teachers and staff create an environment where students achieve and believe in themselves and their school. Your input, feedback, and support will continues to be critical to my leadership, the teaching and learning environment and above all to the success of your child in our school.

With our school’s goal of emphasizing on improving academic outcomes and high student achievement school-wide, we will continue to challenge our students, expect their best work and encourage, nurture and support them every step of the way.

There are several ways you, as parents, family members and caregivers can support your children:

  • Celebrate your child’s successes (giving verbal praise), no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.
  • Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night.
  • Establish a routine for studying. Give your child a quiet corner to read and regular time to do homework.
  • Send your child to school every day on time. Children who arrive on time to school and ready to learn sets the course for their day and prepares them to be successful.
  • Keep in touch with your child’s teacher via e-mail, telephone, notes, or letters.
  • Attend school-wide events, classroom events, and conferences.

We will continue to embrace our school’s social contract:

To achieve success:
We do our personal best.
We respect others and ourselves.
We take responsibility for our choices and actions.
We cooperate to maintain a safe community.
We celebrate our rich diversity.

Our school’s tenet: Peabody: One School, Many Stories will follow us through this school year. We continue to learn about one another. It has been a rich path that we are looking forward to where it will take us next.

School starts for grades 1 – 5 on Tuesday, September 5th at 8:40AM. This is a full school day. Kindergartners and Junior Kindergartners will start on Thursday, September 7th at 8:40AM. This is also a full school day.

See you soon and enjoy the rest of this beautiful summer.
