Greetings from Our Family Resource Liaison!

Greetings from Our Family Resource Liaison!
Posted on 09/21/2015
Welcome to our second full week of school! It has been a great couple of weeks. The school has been jam packed with learning, excitement and fun.

I have the great privilege of saying good morning to all your children every morning and saying good bye to them each day. This is a really great feeling of connection for me personally. I love seeing their smiles. Even on days that a few are not as “morning ready”, I can assure you that within moments into the classroom, their outlook completely changes! This is good news for all of us! They really do love school.

I also need to tell you I have moved offices. You can now find me in the Main Corridor (heading towards 1st grade), 2nd office on the right. I hope you will stop in to meet, gather or just chat. I also have a place for students in my office for your children to draw or read a book while we meet. Please stop by and say hello! I am very excited to let you know that I am currently representing the School Based Liaisons as well as our school on the Family Engagement Planning Team. This team is continuing our exciting work that we started will Dr. Karen Mapp, the family engagement guru across the country. Over the past couple of years, CPSD has received several trainings from her around family engagement. This is a multi year plan beginning this year. The District has identified specific goals for each year. This is wonderful, fulfilling work. Over the summer, I enrolled in two different family-engagement focused courses to deepen my commitment to what I do. Right now, I am reading the book When Middle-Class Parents Choose Urban Schools (Class, Race and The Challenge Of Equity In Public Education) by Linn Posey Maddox. I am excited to share in future updates what I learn from this interesting book.

Please save the date for our annual Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 30th at 5:30 pm, we will gather in the cafeteria for pizza for all. Starting at 6:00 we will meet in the Auditorium to briefly hear from Ms. Ford and Specialists then everyone will be visiting classrooms. Community partners will also be present at this event to share information with you and your family. I hope you will be able to join us for this important event.

Thank you and I am looking forward to a great year!
