Update from Physical Education

Update from Physical Education

Dear Peabody Community,

PEWe are enjoying another wonderful year in Physical Education. As specialists, we are very fortunate to get to teach students over the span of their whole elementary school careers. For this reason, I always feel like each year tops the previous one! Presently, all students in grades K-5 are immersed in a “Healthy Heart, Fit Body” unit. The aim of this unit is to teach students about the five health related components of physical fitness (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition) and show them how each can be addressed in fun and developmentally appropriate ways at home using nothing but their own bodies and body weight. We are also learning about making healthy food choices and the benefit of exercise for our brains. Our students have been so engaged and curious about how they can lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

I encourage you to ask your students to show you some of the exercises (and variations) they have learned, as I am sure they will be glad to share and do them together!
