Hello Peabody Community:

Here we are – Memorial Day weekend! We would normally be gearing up for our annual Literacy Week activities. I’ll certainly miss our beautiful Poetrees this year. Next year they will be back and as gorgeous as ever!

I just have a few things to share with you this week.

CPS Free or Reduced-Price Meals Program & Food Distribution
The District is keenly aware that people’s financial status might have changed during this shutdown. You may be eligible for CPS Free or Reduced-Price Meals program, which will allow you to be eligible for future rounds of P-EBT and other resources. Click here to apply.

Please continue to reach out to me if you have food or diaper needs. We are happy to help any way we can.

Important note: There will be NO FOOD DISTRIBUTION on Monday, May 25th in observation of Memorial Day.

I am at school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at lunchtime and love when people drop by! Over the last couple of weeks it has been nice to see so many familiar faces. I look forward to seeing many more!

Below is some information from other members of our community:

From Ms. Bourne:
For families who are leaving Cambridge Public Schools and need to return their Chromebook and/or CPS library books, the CPS Helpdesk is open Mondays and Thursdays from 11AM - 2PM at CRLS in the Carpentry Garage near the corner of Cambridge Street and Felton Street. The Helpdesk is ready to receive these items from JK-8 families!

In addition, families who are staying in Cambridge Public Schools but no longer need their Chromebook and/or library books may also return them to the CPS Helpdesk.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

From the Courageous Conversations Team:
Courageous Conversations Virtual Session: June 4 (7:45-8:45PM)
Ms. Tassew (2nd grade teacher at Baldwin), who has lots of wonderful experience leading equity work in schools where she has taught, has agreed to moderate our virtual session. She will give a short presentation related to what she is seeing on the ground as a teacher, and then we will break out into small groups for discussion before coming back together. Please RSVP to [email protected] if you would like to receive the Zoom invitation to the 7:45-8:45PM on June 4th session

Update from Friends of Peabody – Ragnar
I wanted to give a quick update and thank you to everyone that participated in the Mother’s Day weekend’s Virtual Ragnar Relay. We logged 384 miles over 3 days. While it was a much different experience than being cramped in a van and running through the night down the Cape, the virtual format allowed a bunch of new families and kids to participate in ways they haven’t been able to in the past. Some of us have yet to meet in person!

The team raised $3,685, about $2k of that during week before the race, for Friends of Peabody. As usual, I will leave the campaign open until the end of May if anyone wants to make additional donations.

A big thank you to the following runners, walkers, and small(er) people:

Himadraya Ashar and Tushar
Luke Beagley and Ben
