I am thrilled to join the Peabody this year as our school’s grade 3-5-music teacher! Here is a little about me: I first started playing music seriously in fourth grade, when I began taking percussion lessons through my elementary school. In undergrad I chose to study music, and received a degree in music and in ethnomusicology from UMass Amherst and spent a year studying ethnomusicology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. At this point I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and went on to get my Masters in Elementary Education from Salem State University, and my Masters in Applied Linguistics with a concentration in ESL from UMass Boston. I received my training in the Kodaly method of music education through New England Conservatory.

Before becoming a music teacher, I taught special education for two years and English for Tsinghua University. Outside of school, I keep active playing music and dancing. Currently I am in an orchestra, a traditional Greek music band, and dance Cuban style salsa and rueda with a performing dance group. I love being outdoors, swimming at the beach, scuba diving, riding horses, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with friends, family, my cat and chinchilla. Once again, I am thrilled to be joining the Peabody community and look forward to many active music-making experiences with our wonderful students!

Hello, my name is Stephanie Trainor-Russell. I am thrilled to be a new member of the Peabody School as your Building Substitute. It is so exciting to be part of this diverse and friendly community. I was born and raised in the city of Cambridge and I am proud to be working with the children of this wonderful city.

For the past 15 years I worked at St. Peter’s School in Cambridge. I had many roles there including 5th Grade Teacher, 3rd Grade teacher and most recently, Reading Specialist for grades Kindergarten through Four. Teaching children is such a rewarding way to spend each day. I am so happy to start this new chapter of my career here at the Peabody School. This year promises to be filled with many smiles and learning adventures.
