Out-of-School Time Activities

OST

Out-of-school time (OST) activities, including after school, summer, and vacation week programs, provide students with excellent opportunities for growth beyond the traditional school day and year. These programs foster valuable relationships, new friendships, and exposure to diverse experiences.

A wide range of OST opportunities are available for students throughout Cambridge. These include activities, clubs and programs held within school buildings both before and after school, as well as numerous other OST opportunities provided by and accessible through various youth and community centers, non-profits, sports leagues, and more across the city. For more information about after school bus eligibility and stops, click here.

HARRY POTTER FAN CLUB (GRADES 3-5)
MONDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
An exploration into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Activities will include crafts, games, read-alouds, watching movie excerpts, and more! 

PEABODY POST (GRADE 3-4) 
MON/WEDS | 8AM 
Students will create news articles (opinion, investigative, advice, news updates, comics) and share them with the school. 

PEABODY STITCH SQUAD (GRADES 3-5)
MONDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
Peabody Parents will come to teach the basics of crocheting and/or knitting, with a small finished item to take home at the end. Students will learn 
the benefits and importance of it and how crochet & knitting can be found in day to day life and art. 

LITERACY & ART (GRADES CPP-K)
THURSDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
Students will create art connected to books. We will read stories and share literacy time together. 

LEADERS IN LEGO (GRADES 2-3)
MONDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM
LEGO Club encourages imagination, supports STEM learning, and helps students build confidence in a relaxed, play-based environment. 

CODING CLUB (GRADES 3-5)
TUESDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
Coding is for everyone! Come practice Scratch with friends and real Coders while also learning new skills. 

STORIES & STUFF (GRADES 1-2)
TUES/THURS | 8AM
Read and discuss picture books with Ms. Casassa before school.

HARVARD SCIENCE OLYMPIAD (GRADES 3-5)
TUESDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
Harvard University students will come teach a team-based after-school olympiad. Students will work in groups to study a wide variety of topics ranging from
physics to meteorology. Last meeting on Monday, May 4th.

WALKING CLUB (GRADE K-5)
M, TU, WED, TH | 8AM
A morning walking club in the big gym for students to get some light exercise before the start of school. Come with your song requests, for some music and
walking, there's no better way to start your day!

SPANISH CLUB | GRADES 3-5
TUESDAY | 3:20 - 4:20PM 
Students will use this time to practice Spanish using websites approved by CPS.

Additional After School Programs Located at or Near the Peabody School:
DHSP Community Schools (K-5th Grade), Childcare (K-5th Grade) and/or Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) Pre-teen / Middle School Programs (4th-8th Grade)
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) offers a variety of youth-serving, Out-of-School Time (OST) programs for Cambridge children, youth, and teens designed to develop children’s social and emotional growth and build healthy relationships. Open seats are filled through a lottery process. Families can apply through the online lottery for afterschool and summer programs.

DHSP Lottery Application Dates

  • DHSP Summer Programs: Lottery open to applications: February-March
  • DHSP Afterschool Programs: Lottery open to applications: April-May

PBHA’s Cambridge Afterschool Program (CASP) (3rd-8th Grade)
Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) provides affordable and accessible afterschool programming, primarily for low-income and immigrant families. CASP offers daily homework help and practice with fundamental reading and math skills, students at CASP engage in workshops designed to complement academic curriculum. The Cambridge Agenda for Children Out-of-School Time (AFCOST) is a citywide intermediary working with Cambridge Public Schools as well as many other city-run and community-based programs serving young people beyond the school day and year. AFCOST’s mission is to increase equity, access and innovation and sustain the highest quality OST opportunities and experiences for all children, youth and families.
